Hainan Province is the youngest and smallest province in China. It is basically a big island with railways connecting to the mainland. After the trip to Daliangshan, we flew to Sanya, the second largest city in Hainan, a beautiful coastal city.

The beaches and bays of Sanya are so beautiful. Impressive is the statue of the Guanyin of Nanshan. It is 354 feet (108 meters) tall, and may be the tallest Buddhist statue in the world. Betelnut park- Li/Miao Village is also a scenic spot worth visiting, where you could see the traditional arts and crafts of the Li /Miao nations and the performances of the Li/Miao people, but a bit of over-commercialized. There were a large variety of tropical fruits in the park. Except betel nut, I tried several, and they were all sweety and tasty. Overlooking from the mountain top in the nearby park, the bay and the city under the sunset are marvelous. The only complaint was the hot and humid weather which made us feel like we were in the sauna 24 hours a day.

The last stop in Hainan is the capital and the largest city of Hainan province, Haikou. On the way, we made a small turn to visit the Red Detachment of Women Memorial Park in Qionghai and the famous BoAo Asia Forum Conference Center. At Haikou, we held a medical symposium with Hainan Medical College. Hainan is a modern city with excellent food and entertainment, but I favor Sanya over Haikou.
